I love this time of year!  The weather is warming up, most of our crops are planted, or have bloomed, been pollinated and are officially growing fruit at this point… and best of all, The Apple Shed has opened for the season!  The Shed is open daily from 8am-6pm, with our Country Cafe’ serving lunch from 11am-3pm daily. Until our own vegetables are ripe, we obtain locally-grown produce such as asparagus, spring onions, zucchini, spinach and tomatoes as it as available.  We’ve got apples from storage, including Crispin and Empire, and we’ve got cider, pressed and frozen when it was the best of the season, along with Apple Shed favorites like fudge, fresh cookies & River Rat cheese.

Perhaps the best thing in The Apple Shed right now is fresh strawberries! Weather permitting, strawberries are picked fresh every day.  Currently we are picking a couple of early varieties in relatively small quantities, something that is reflected in the price which is currently $4.00/quart.  In a matter of days,  berries will become more plentiful, u-pick will become available on a daily basis* and the in-store price will drop a bit.   So if you’re a strawberry lover, now is the time to pick up a quart to enjoy fresh and in a week or 10 days you’ll want to stock up to freeze berries for pies, smoothies and to make jam.  The strawberry season usually lasts about 3-4 weeks.

U-pick Strawberry Season is in full swing! U-Pick is weather permitting and dependent upon crop conditions, please call to verify availability.  Hours: M-F 8am-Noon, Sa-Su 8am-3pm

Current U-Pick Strawberry price is $3.00/quart, quart containers are available for $.10 each
Store Hours: 8 am-6pm daily
Lunch Hours: 11am-3pm daily
