U-Pick Apples at The Apple Shed in Newark, Wayne County NY
For the first time in our nearly 45-year history, The Apple Shed will be offering u-pick apples. We have planted new orchards that are a bit more conducive to allowing visitors and we are excited about our first year. Visitors will check in at the barn across the road from The Apple Shed, and purchase a bag for u-pick, which will also be their ticket onto the hayride and off the hayride at the u-pick stop. After purchasing a bag in the barn, visitors will ride on one of our brand-new hay wagons to the orchard, where those who have purchased bags for u-pick will unload and be given instructions by the orchard attendant. When visitors are done picking, they will return to the loading area and await arrival of the next wagon, to return them to the barn.
Apples this year are plentiful and have excellent size; we anticipate a good crop. As in a typical year, we will offer nearly 30 varieties of apples in The Apple Shed, beginning mid-August. Our u-pick orchard will have 7-10 different varieties ripening at different times during the season. Regular u-pick hours will begin on 9/16, continuing on weekends through 10/29, weather and crop conditions permitting.
Our orchard hayrides are a tradition for many families, and this year families will be able to choose whether or not they’d like to use the hayride to get to our u-pick orchard, or just as a relaxing ride to enjoy the beauty of Fall. On Fall weekends, guests can enjoy our all-new hard cidery, Old Goat Cidery, which, on weekends, will be located in an event tent near behind The Apple Shed. OGC opened on June 2, 2017 and offers 4-6 different flavors of hard cider. Our Country Café serves lunch daily from 11am-3pm and 11am-4pm on weekends, offering sandwiches, paninis, salads, soups and pizza made with farm fresh ingredients.
