Beginning mid-June of this year, The Apple Shed will launch its first-ever produce subscription program, which is much like a CSA. (A CSA is a program where members prepay a farmer for a “share” of this year’s harvest in exchange for a weekly allotment of produce.) The program, called “Farm to Families,” will offer members a weekly crate of fruits and vegetables throughout the summer. Registration is open now and will close May 1,2016
What your “Farm to Families” crate might include:
June: Strawberries (x2), Cucumbers, Radishes, Spinach, Zucchini
July: Blueberries, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Summer Squash, Salad Mix, Broccoli
August: Peaches, Blueberries, Tomatoes, Romaine, Sweet Corn, Melon
Cost of the 12-week membership is $250, payable at the time of sign-up
Members of our “Farm to Families” program will receive a crate of locally grown produce every week for 12 weeks beginning on June 12. Pickup will be at The Apple Shed on either Wednesday from 3pm-6pm or Saturday from 8am-11am.
For the 2017 season, membership in the program will be limited with ½ for pickup on Wednesday and ½ on Saturday. If the program goes well, membership will be expanded for 2018 season.
For every 20 “Farm to Families” memberships purchased, we will donate one subscription to the Newark Food Closet.
